In todays world more and more women are delaying their conception in later ages either due to late marriage or due to settlement of carrier.
But you cannot stop your biological clock .after crossing 35 chances of having abnormal baby increases many folds due to aged ovum and in some cases due to associated medical disorders.
After 35 you can have normal babies and even uneventful in most of the time follow few golden rules
Plan your Pregnancy:
- Visit your doctor for pre pregnancy checks and know your health status and try to correct it
- Start Prenatal vitamins
- If you are taking some medicines ,discuss with your doctor whether it is safe to continue during planning and pregnancy
1.Regular antenatal checkups and tests
Most common problem in this age is increased chances of having chromosomally abnormal baby so follow the instruction of your doctor.
Some blood tests and detail USG scans are done at 11-14 wks and at 18 wks which are screening tests to assess the chances of abnormality in growing fetus.
Doubal marker along with NT scan at 11-14 wks gives a good insight in chances of having abnormal test.
Again at 18 wks another blood test quadruple markers and detail congenital scan can be done to rule out abnormalities. These tests combined give assurance of 95-97%.
There is a new test available, known as non invasive prenatal test .In this test baby’s DNA is separated from mother’s blood and studied to find out abnormality with 99% accuracy. If any doubt then you require invasive test like chorionic villous sampling or amniocentesis where directly cell from fetus or water around baby is aspirated and cell is separated and confirmatory diagnosis is done
- 35 + women have more chance to develop diabetes, blood pressure so they require more care.
- There might be high chance of LSCS in these women.
- Take care of your diet and exercise.
If you have delayed to become pregnant, keep an eye on your pre pregnancy and intra pregnancy health to reduce your complications risks. Preconceptions care plays an important role. So early and regular antenatal care is MANTRA for healthy baby.
